Vietnamese inspired pork steaks

Method

  • Whisk the water, oil, soy, garlic, chillies, fish sauce, sesame oil, sugar and lemon juice in a large bowl until well combined. 
  • Add the pork, toss well and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours, turning now and again. 
  • Then briefly cook the pork on a preheated BBQ (or ridged grill), basting with the marinade now and again.  
  • Slice the pork crossways and serve with the mint and lettuce arranged on the side. 
  • Wrap the pork and mint in the lettuce leaves and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup canola or vegie oil
  • ½ cup light soy sauce
  • 6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 3 small red chillies, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp Asian fish sauce
  • ½-1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 heaped tbsp shaved palm (or soft brown) sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 8 thin pork steaks
  • a good handful of fresh Vietnamese mint leaves
  • a good handful of butter (or iceberg) lettuce leaves
