The American Toll House choc chip cookies


  • Preheat oven to 180°C fan forced (200°C normal).
  • Combine the butter with the sugars and vanilla using a hand beater.
  • Add the egg and continue mixing.
  • Then add the salt and gradually sift in the flour with the bicarb, mixing with a wooden spoon between each addition. DON'T OVER MIX.
  • Add the chocolate buttons, stir and then put dessertspoons of the dough onto lightly oiled baking sheets, leaving space between each one. Cook in the oven for about 10 mins until lightly golden, but still pliable in the centre. Rest for a few minutes, before transferring to a cake rack to cool.
