Cheese steak Hoagie

Method

  • Preheat overhead grill. 
  • Cook the onion and steaks on a lightly oiled ridged grill (or BBQ) to the desired degree, seasoning once sealed.
  • When almost ready, add the bread and toast one side.
  • Then place the bread on an oven tray, grilled side down, smear with mayonnaise and top with the lettuce, onion, tomato, steak and cheese. Cook under the overhead grill until the cheese has melted.

Ingredients

  • olive oil spray
  • 1 red onion, sliced thickly
  • 4 x 120 gm porterhouse steaks, trimmed of all fat & sinew 
  • sea salt & freshly ground pepper
  • 4 thick slices country-style bread
  • mayonnaise
  • iceberg or cos lettuce leaves
  • 1 large, ripe tomato, sliced thickly
  • finely sliced gruyere cheese (or tasty)
