Goat's cheese & fig jam tart


  • Preheat oven to 190°C fan forced (210°C normal).
  • Heat the oil in a large heavy-bottomed pan and gently saute the onion until tender. Turn the heat down, add 6 diced figs and toss for 2-3 mins. Then add the port, stir and simmer for about 5 mins until the liquid is reduced to a syrup.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and add the balsamic, salt and pepper. Stir, taste for seasoning and set aside to cool a little. 
  • Cut the pastry sheet in a large round and place on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Spread a decent amount of jam on top, leaving an edge, and then crumble a little goat's cheese over. 
  • Whisk the egg and milk, and brush the egg wash around the pastry edge. Then cook in the oven for about 8-10 mins until risen and golden brown.
  • Finely slice the remaining figs and arrange on the tart.
